Mission

Founded in 2025, Megacity Projects is an independent nonprofit publisher fusing locally-rooted narrative journalism and visual art to illuminate the realities of urban life. Based in Los Angeles and globally engaged, we work closely with writers, artists, and community members to develop and share stories reimagining the cities we inherit and inhabit.

A megacity is more than a population statistic—it’s a cultural ecosystem shaped by extremes: inequality and innovation, identity and instability. Through a mix of reportage and reflection, we document how people navigate the urban sprawl. Our narrative nonfiction, fiction, criticism, and visual art illuminate the contradictions and nuances of city life, from unseen labor and cultural resistance to gentrification, beauty, and belonging.

Our current print series include the annual Megacity Review and Los Angeles Art Almanac. Partnering with local artists, businesses, and cultural organizations, we also produce limited-run zines and catalogues.
